AlexDeHatter's News

Posted by AlexDeHatter - January 28th, 2017

So, January turned out to be a much busier year than I expected - and not really in a good way.

Long story short, Uni took over and I've had to put my animation plans to the shelf until my deadline passes at the end of the month. It sucks, but education is important. Once the deadline's passed, I'll have more free time to do art and animation - in fact, I'm planning to do some animation for one of my new modules.

While this hasn't been the start of the new year I exactly wanted, I feel that I at least have a chance to catch up once things clear up in a few days' time. I want this year to be one where I truly set my goals straight and improve my skills along the way.

Thanks for sticking with me during this unexpected drought, and stay tuned for future stuff!

Hey everyone, just thought I'd give a quick little update before my next semester officially starts.

I'm gonna get a lot more practical from this point onward - not just in my studies, but also my free time. Quite a few animation-related things have popped up - "Animonthly" ran by Ross from Game Grumps and "GemAnimate 2", a Steven Universe re-animation fan project. I've managed to secure a place for GemAnimate 2 and Animonthly is open to everyone, so I'm set to get back into animating pretty soon. As for my studies, right now I'm doing some practical stuff for a future project and am looking to apply for a more practical work-based optional module. The animation-related stuff may seem like a lot of work on top of my studies, but with these not really demanding a whole lot of animation, I feel I can manage my time just fine on both ends.

I'm also planning to start posting to my YouTube channel. I was previously put off it because of the problems YouTube's had for a while, but now I feel like it'll at least help a little bit in terms of getting my work seen. I plan to upload future animation here as well, mainly because it's been long overdue on the gallery for some time.

A somewhat busy start to the year for me, but I'm determined to make it work and kick it off with a more content-filled boom.

Stay tuned!

Hey everyone, here's a quick little update from me before we head into 2017.

First of all, I was originally going to submit an animation for the 11 Second Club for this month, but because of a report deadline and Christmas/New Year's happening in the same month, I couldn't start working on it until fairly late into the month, and it's evident that I won't be able to finish what I've done so far in time for the submission - which is a real shame, considering how long it's been since I've animated something.

However, I plan to change that in 2017. Once the next 11 Second Club competition starts in January, I'm going to make an effort to get an animated piece submitted for that one and each one afterwards - as well as look for more animation projects floating around. I'll still be working hard in my Master's course, but I feel that there have been more than enough inactive periods from me and I now need to fix that more than ever in 2017 by maintaining a consistent flow of producing something a bit more meaty - on top of improving my skills.

As we go into 2017, we need to look on the positive side. 2016 has been quite the downer with the celebrity deaths and political hoo-hah, but we shouldn't let that keep us down as we enter the new year - we need to be brave and keep our heads held high, even if it sounds scary.

Happy New Year everyone, and thank you all for supporting me through 2016. I'll leave you with this quote from Gravity Falls:

Dipper: "Ready to head into the unknown?"
Mabel: "Nope... Let's do it."

Hi, everyone!

Sorry for the LONG inactivity during November. Things have been getting rather busy in my Masters course, and things just haven't been very eventful recently - but that's about to change!

As Christmas comes ever closer, I'm still going to be mainly focusing on studies (especially since we have a report deadline coming up pretty soon!) - however, I'm also planning to do art-related stuff over December. A Christmas piece is pretty much required, though I'm also going to try and get back into animating via the 11 Second Club challenge and Gem Animate 2 (which is similar to Moon Animate Make-Up 2, with the difference being it's Steven Universe instead of Sailor Moon). I only need to animate a few seconds for both of those, so I'm not gonna be pushing myself too much.

With that said, I'd better get back to work! Have a good December!

If you haven't seen it yet, here's my graduate film "The Fairy and The Dragon", which was recently shown at Nottingham Comic Con and nominated for a Royal Television Society award!
